DU increases 7000 more seats - 10% less cut-offs for OBC.

Delhi University is going to add 18 per cent more seats in the admission for various under-graduate courses for 2008-09 session. There is 7000 more seats will be available to students this year. The move comes in wake of recent judgment of the Supreme Court where in it has directed the educational institutes to provide 27 per cent reservation for other backward classes students. Seats for General category students which remains unchanged, stands at 27500 and the remaining 6296 and 3148 seats would be availed by Scheduled Caste and Tribe category students respectively.
The Vice-chancellor of Delhi University Deepak Pental said: “Certainly it will pose some challenges as many colleges are short of class-rooms and faculties to meet even the existing load. But as it is a Constitutional obligation we all abide by it.”

Delhi University on Wednesday announced the admission schedule for its under-graduate courses with sale and receipt of forms beginning from June 2.

The common pre-admission forms along with information bulletins will be available from June 2 to 16. The bulletin will also be available in Hindi.

“The University has set up 15 admission information centres in different parts of the city for sale and receipt of forms. A bigger and better information bulletin comprising a large map awaits candidates this year. The map gives the locations of colleges and the distance between all the vital landmarks of the Capital,” said Dean of Students’ Welfare S. K. Vij at a press conference on Wednesday.

The bulletin will provide information about the various courses, last year’s cut-off percentage in different colleges and also a list of programmes. Candidates will have to indicate on a single form the courses and colleges where they are seeking admission. The completed form can be submitted at any of the 15 designated centres irrespective from where it has been obtained.

The first admission list will be announced by the colleges on June 26.

Students can also obtain separate college prospectus and application forms directly from the colleges.

The University has decided to hold “Open Days” at six different institutions beginning May 24.
